Amazon Offers Free Fire TV Trial to Some Customers

As a part of an effort to bring Amazon's Fire TV into as many living rooms as possible, the company is offering some of its customers a 30-day free trial of the Internet connected set-top box.

According to Re/code, Amazon is hand-picking participants by sending them an invite-only promotion email. If you've received the email, all you need to do is apply the offer and check out. Amazon will pick up the tab for now — you don't even have to pay for shipping.
The promotion for Fire TV ($99) comes nearly two months after it was first debuted with hopes to take on the Apple TV, Roku and even the Xbox One.

The device, which uses voice search when you speak into the remote and also serves as a gaming console, aims to take away the frustrations of scrolling and clicking for letters on an alphabet grid to find content. It also comes with a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU for gaming purposes. Amazon said the Fire TV is three times more powerful than the Apple TV.
The remote control, which resembles a hybrid of the Apple TV remote and Boxee's original remote, is Bluetooth-based and costs an additional $39.

If you hold onto the trial device for more than 30 days, Amazon assumes you want to keep it and will then charge the card you have on file. But considering it's free for a whole month while you decide if it's a fit for your lifestyle, it's a smart deal to try.
